Our Glass Stones are, thanks to the fact they are so easy to use and made of the best quality, perfect for both amateur and experienced sharpening enthusiasts. These sharpening stones are Splash & Go sharpening stones. This means that they only need a 'splash' of water before you can get to work. The sharpening stones are made from top-quality aluminium oxide. As such the stones will last a lifetime, give good feedback during use and leave you with razor-sharp results.
Splash & Go sharpening stones
The top-quality aluminium oxide alone is not enough to make a stone Splash & Go. The aluminium oxide was combined with a special binding agent and hardened at room temperature. Because of this agent and the hardening process the stones are solid and will only absorb a little water. The sharpening stones are Splash & Go, but don't assume that you don't have to use any more water during the sharpening process. The sharpening stones will always absorb a little water and as you sharpen your knives you push that water out. As such it is key the stone stays wet as you use it.
The sharpening stones got their name from the glass plate to which it is mounted. This glass sheet ensures that the stone is extra solid and will last for years. Even if, after intensive use, the stone has become a little thinner. The grain size indication can be found at the base of the stone. Because it is located behind the glass sheet, you won't sharpen it off. As such you will always know which grain size you are dealing with.
Grain size of the Glass Stones
The Glass Stones collection is comprised of four sharpening stones with a grain size of 400, 1000, 3000 and 6000 grit. With the 400 grit Glass Stone you make sure your blunt knives can be used again. With the 1000 grit Glass Stone you sharpen your knives for sharp results and remove the sharpening residue from the 400 grit sharpening stone. 1000 grit is a great grain size for pocket knives and fixed knives you use on a daily basis. With the 3000 grit sharpening stone you end up with razor-sharp results. This grain size is perfect for kitchen knives you use on a daily basis. Finally, the 6000 grit Glass Stone. With this grain size you will make sure your knives reach a sharpness like you have never seen before, with a nice, polished finish.
Functions, maintenance and storing the Glass Stones
The Skerper Glass stones come with a removable non-slip base. As such the stone won't slip. Not even when the surface you are sharpening on has become wet during the sharpening process. It also ensures that the sharpening stone is located a little higher to make sure you have more room during use. Great if you don't already own the Sink Bridge! The Glass Stones also come with solid packaging which you can use to store the stones after use. Do keep in mind that you need to allow the sharpening stones to dry at room temperature before you put them back in their packaging.
