That is why stropping will only work if your knife is already really sharp. To make stropping on a leather strop even more effective, you use a so-called stropping compound or stropping paste. This is an extremely fine polishing agent that ensures you will end up with incredibly sharp results even faster.

Strops come in many different shapes and sizes. There are strops with rough or smooth leather. The rough leather ensures that more compound will stay on top of the strop. As such the strop is even faster and more effective. Smooth leather leaves you with fine results and is therefore better for polishing with the finest compounds. Large strops are great when stropping large knives, like kitchen knives or large survival knives. Our small strops are suited to strop pocket knives or bushcraft knives. Because they are nice and compact you can easily take them with you in your backpack.

Stropping is the final step in the sharpening process. It is also an indispensable step if you are looking for ultimate sharpness and a shiny edge! As you strop the edge of your knife you remove the smallest burrs, scratches and other imperfections that emerged as you used your sharpening stone.
